PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland police chief wants to know what the public thinks about the use of Tasers and other non-lethal weapons by local officers. The police bureau is hoping people will honestly answer questions such as, "Do you think weapons like Tasers are used enough, or not enough?" and "Are they being used appropriately?"Portland's current policy allows police to use a Taser when a person engages in, or displays the intent to engage in physical resistance. It is considered more permissive than other cities' and model guidelines. To comment on the matter, contact the commander of the precinct where you live or drop off an opinion in writing. There is no submission deadline.
